Motus Sonus: United-C

Before the performance, Alesya and Max spent several rehearsals to define the elements that would be explored improvised during the performance. They determined the artists and artworks that would be part of the presentation. This time, the focus of the research was specifically on the auditory quality of the physical objects when manipulated or disturbed. They experimented with various materials such as coal, metal, plastic, and water. As the research was presented in a black box, light also became a significant element of the performance. Light, movement and sound didn't exist as individual elements but interacted with each other, influencing and enhancing each other's qualities.

Motus Sonus is an interdisciplinary experimental project focused on movement and sound, curated by dancer and choreographer Alesya Dobysh, and composer Max Frimout. By researching the musicality of movement and the physicality of sound, they have developed a joint practice.

As a performance research practice, it continues to evolve and adapt to new forms. On May 10th, 2024, It was presented at the Motion Lab opening evening, as a part of the Urban Dance Days festival in Eindhoven. After presentations in various venues such as warehouses (De Fabriek, Eindhoven), empty galleries (Windmill, Seoul), museum expositions (Thomas Schutte at De Pont, Tilburg), and art centers (The Grey Space In the Middle), this experiment was brought into the traditional theater/ black box setup of the Art House of United Cowboys.

The performance featured Paris-based dancer Xenia Sairento, who uniquely merges electro dance with contemporary dance in an experimental manner. London-based dancer James Olive, known for his extraordinary fluid style, mix of hip-hop freestyle, animation, and contemporary dance. The third performer, Simon Bus, is known for his distinctive style developed from merging unconventional breaking and butoh. The performance also included a sculptural installation by Hedwich Rooks and light sculptures by Erik van de Wijdeven. The entire performance's sound design was provided by Max Frimout, a Dutch-based electronic composer and the main collaborator of Alesya for Motus Sonus, who also performed live.
